Rain and Chili

Woke up very late, almost 9 am.

Onion, yellow pepper, veg burger substitute, canned tomatoes, black beans, leftover spaghetti sauce. Chili and garlic powders, smoked paprika.

Jett’s pink ball is missing, tragically.

Did a laundry.

Also made oatmeal/raisin “things” using yogurt and Truvia in lieu of the “good stuff”. Jet likes them but I have to remove the raisins first, word is they are deadly for dogs.

Worked on the application. Got another requirement from Andi, mark patrons as Inactive but keep their activities.

Posted a help wanted in the FPF. Looking for an A/V setup.

Toyota advised me to get a document from the RMV, first I’d heard that I needed it, so I got it today on line, thank goodness and uploaded it to them. This allows them to notify the Town that my old registration is cancelled and, thus, must refund the excise tax payment to them. Toyota will then reimburse me. We should all live so long!

Another Gorgeous Day; Bravecto and Sentinel

Jett and I did a brief exploration of a new spot on Mailbox Hill yesterday. Great views from there and from Octagon Road. Got cheese from Cricket Creek farm on the way home.

This morning I picked up a free shelf unit but it’s unusable here as is and mostly particle board. I cannibalized it for parts and that might actually work.

Jett eventually ate his much-hated Bravecto. Sentinel went down easily.

Ron did a shop at Big Y today. Peet’s was on sale.

I did some touch up painting and caulking on the deck while Jett kept me company. Supposed to rain tomorrow but still mild.

Pulled up the rest of the tomato supports and put them away.

Ron watched the Denver/NY game. I made a small casserole with a little eggplant, greens, onion, pepper, tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese.

Oil!

We fixed the living room closet door so it latches.

Lots of vacuuming.

Preite dropped off 100 gallons of oil. It’s great to be warm.

We managed to get the big rug down from the top of the garage and install it in the living room. Put the kitchen rug in the bedroom.

Tomato soup and the last of the Chenail corn for lunch.

Ron swept the garage floor. Jett and I went to Dollar General for Milk Bone and treats for us.

Carpets, A Tick

Ron felt a lump on his side; it was a tick so swollen it was grey. It was also deeply embedded and I had a hard time getting all of it out.

Worked on the living room wall to wall today and made some progress with an Oxy-based cleaning product.

Ron did a transfer station and grocery store run.

Cooked a double portion of mac and cheese for supper. Ron devoured most of it. He didn’t realize how hungry he was. He’s having more lower intestinal control problems.

Gave Alyssa our copy of the Williamstown Historical Society newsletter. It has a full-page story about their uncle Dave; he’s also in their cover story.

Town Treasurer explained why I was double billed for the Excise Tax on the Corolla.

Great Falls Baking Company

I brought home several first-rate pastries, including a pecan bar, pecan roll, blueberry muffin and cinnamon roll.

Ron, Jett and I went to Bennington to pick up Purina wet lamb food for Jett at Walmart. It was the only store nearby that carries it and has it in stock.

On the way back, we did a short walk through the Norman and Selma Greenberg Conservation Reserve. Gorgeous property, it reminded me of our walks in the West Barnstable nature preserve, only this one is better: it has views of mountains.

Before heading home, we stopped at Chenail’s farm stand for corn.

Back at home, we watched football. I fed Ron a bunch of snacks and more or less healthy odds and ends and mixed up Jett’s kibble with about half a can of Purina lamb stew.

Art Show, Sheep Hill

Ron raked, I cleaned up the post-frost dead plants in the vegetable and flower garden and deck containers.

I brought three garden tools to be sharpened to the South Williamstown Association’s Repair Cafe, then stopped off to see a show by a local artist who also teaches at the Harper Center.

Freeze

About on schedule (mid-October or so), it is 29 degrees and time to clean up the gardens and the deck.

I wanted to go on Cape for a couple of days but a possible Nor’easter is predicted for the coast.

Jett and I were up before 6. Or was it before 5? In any event, I mixed up the Purina canned lamb with his regular food and he wolfed it down. Looks like Walmart has the best price.

Made a casserole with tomatoes, onions, spinach, garlic, corn, bok choy, Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs. Very tasty.

Stopped at Remedy Hall to go over changes. Brought their laptop home when I couldn’t see the interface to publish! Bloody nuisance. I forgot the power cord but fortunately have a Dell power adapter at home. Same 19.5 volt output and the tip fits.

Went to Walmart for Purina lamb but they didn’t have a single one. While I was there, picked up Ron’s prescription from yesterday’s meeting with his Primary, coffee for Andi and two nice desserts from the freezer section, cheesecake and a Key Lime pie.

Ron’s bloodwork report was done the same day as the draw. He is low on Iron. I gave him two bottles of Ferrous Sulfate.

I should mention that he’s booked for two appointments with memory specialists in February and March. He also has an appointment with an audiologist. I made an appointment for a wellness visit, I think next Thursday.

We watched the final interview with Jane Goodall this evening. Very touching, inspiring.

Three day weekend ahead and a fair amount of activity. I doubt we’ll do much, we skipped Log Lunch today and a showing of Sundance Indigenous films yesterday.

Rained

We got a fair amount of rain last night and this morning.

Jett and I dropped off a book at the library.

Ron and I have been busy with laundry this morning. The bathroom smelled horrible when I got up at 6:45 or so. Turns out there was a half load of clothing that had been sitting there, likely for over a day. I washed and dried everything and they seem to be fine now.

I also did a wash with bleach.

Went through the Junk Mail folder and deleted almost all of it.

It’s been cloudy off and on.

We saw a story on PBS NewsHour last night about ChatGTP virtual “friends”. They’d interviewed a man who created a female companion who meets his emotional needs better than his wife.

I guess if your needs don’t require a living being, that might make sense. At least in his case, he felt it was beneficial. Personally, I wouldn’t find that helpful since my needs of a partner variety are pretty much physical. By that I mean I could use someone who would declutter and organize their “stuff” and build things, like a beautiful, big shed.

Its been hard for both of us to get in gear. I changed the sheets today but took no pleasure in doing it. Did some half-hearted weeding in the garden next to the driveway. We set out our meds for the week. Harangued Ron about putting away the coins that have been on our card table in the living room for months.

I was able to log in to two of my old accounts on Twitter, now X.

All Caught Up, Weather Change Ahead

Saw the beautiful Harvest Super Moon last night.

We’ve been experiencing a short Indian Summer but a freeze is expected soon.

The beans, zukes and hibiscus have been done for a few days now. Tomatoes still ripening. Sadly, the Brandywines on the porch have done pretty well but way too late.

I’m hoping the lilac will shed its leaves soon. They are still wrinkled and discolored, hope the roots have established themselves.

The Montauk daisy has bloomed!

I’ve been catching up, reviewed and deleted thousands of emails. In the process, I found an invoice from the plumber dated early September. Ron and I wrote and mailed checks today.

I started reading a streaming version of “Gone With The Wind”. Margaret Mitchell wrote a heck of a yarn. So much better than the film.

Yesterday I finally got around to trying the soy curls. Soaked, seasoned and cooked them in the big frying pan. They turned out great and we had the remainder with a green salad tonight. Our small attempt to make the soy farmers who have lost the Chinese market whole.

Finally took the big air conditioner out of the living room window.
