Jenny’s Edibles

Caught up with Jenny’s Edibles today at Miskovsky Landscaping.

Her array of vegetables – started in her kitchen – is phenomenal. We bought Vermicelli and Cupcake squash; Parisienne carrots; Black Cherry, Indigo Blue Berries and Cherokee Purple tomatoes; Boothy’s Blonde cuke; Afina cutting celery; and Watermelon radish seedlings. Enough to start the new garden.

Dropped off over $5 worth of bottles and cans at Kappy’s and came home with a basket of white wine (tasting today), beer and ale.

Stopped at Job Lot on the way home for orange seltzer, tissues, basil, oatmeal, freezer bags, a phlox plant plus a gift certificate deal.

This morning, Ron drove Robert to work and I stayed at the house while the plumbers installed the new hot water heater.

I pruned another Montauk and the four St. Johnsworts. Cleared leaves and put 3 bags of mulch (3 feet each) from Waquoit Feed and Garden in the side garden.

Ron also picked Robert up from work. I have fish and purple sweets in the oven.

Been watching Essentially Ellington most of the afternoon and evening. So impressive, such great talent and hard work. These kids are quite remarkable, as are their teachers and communities.

No Rest

Watered today for the first time this year.

Word is the hummers, and possibly the orioles, are back, so Ron put up the feeders.

I cleaned the tub and the bathroom floor and vacuumed.

Two loads of laundry.

Started pruning the Montauks. Planted the basil. Peter stopped by to pick up a piece of birthday cake for James.

Good to get caught up on some of these things.

Bobby Byrnes, Birthday Cake

We picked Robert up after work and the three of us had supper at Bobby Byrnes.

Afterwards, Robert iced Ron’s birthday spice cake.

Ron remounted the shade in the bedroom after it’d fallen for the umpteenth time.

Watched the latest episode of “Wolf Hall”.

Very full birthday.

Keltic Kitchen and New Hat for Ron’s Birthday

DSC01958 DSC01961 DSC01962

Took Ron to Keltic Kitchen for hash and eggs and bought him a Donegal tweed cap for his birthday.

Later, we did a little pruning at Edgewater and brought a load (3 tarps) of leaves and dead grass to the transfer station.

I cleaned up leaves from the front of the house and filled another tarp. So many leaves this Spring, beyond belief after all the raking we did last Fall!

Black on the Holly (Cinco de Mayo)

Ron got the pressure washer to work for me and I was able to spray off at least some of the black mold on the small holly.  Last mention I could find here was March 2010.

Ground up leaves in the wooded area next to the corner garden and did some weeding as well.

We washed out and refilled the bird bath.

Ron had a good appointment with Pat in Hingham, but the Apple genius bar told him his Mac was DOA.

Yard Work, Blueberry Pancakes

DSC01935Ron was feeling better, so he did more thatching yesterday.  We brought a truckload full to the transfer station.

I finished shredding in the new garden plot and pruned the roses and the autumn clematis.

Made pork chops for lunch and turkey meatloaf with purple sweets for supper.

Birds are enjoying Ron’s Pond!

Here’s Ron, enjoying blueberry pancakes, coffee and the Sunday Times!

Thatching Rake, Carrot Cake

DSC01933Bought a thatching rake at Eastman’s and stumbled onto the 300 Committee’s celebration of their new property across the street.  Rumor has it that it will be the site of the Carousel of Light.

Made an appointment to bring the truck in for repairs.

Weed Man was by to fertilize.

Ron’s feeling better.  He was able to set up his GoFundMe account to pay out donations.

Meanwhile, more struggling for me with the new layout for vehicle detail pages.

Baking a carrot cake to celebrate the end of Laura’s chemo!

Continued…

Another day of misery for Ron.

I did some web work and more deep raking.  Picked up lunch at Cooke’s.

Power washer arrived yesterday, and we are coming up with many uses for it: grill, Ron’s pond, vehicles, siding, driveways.

Federal tax refund check arrived today.

Just watched/listened to the Joey Alexander Trio on Livestream/JALC.  Eleven years old.  His talent is miraculous.

Ron’s Dental Work

Turns out, Ron had a dry socket.  The doc repacked it on Monday.  DSC01931He was still in a lot of discomfort yesterday, spent the afternoon on the couch watching a cheesy James Bond movie.

I can’t stand Sean Connery in those early films: want to slap that smirk off his foppish face.  Grow a beard and put on 30 years, then you’ll be entitled to strut.

I did some more shredding and drove Robert home from work.  He’s got ambition, wants to do his prereqs at 4Cs and go on for a degree in biotech.  He’s enjoying his work at iCape, and his manager thinks very highly of both Robert and Peter.  How good to hear!
