6 PM Already?

Did the transfer station run and changed the sheets yesterday.

Went to Plymouth for my pre-cataract surgery examination and instruction today.

Got a bunch of dates. Need to be cleared by vonHaam. It was very fortunate that I’ve rescheduled the appointment we were supposed to have in March; otherwise, an extra 20 or 30 bucks out of my pockets.

I paid for the laser surgery to correct my astigmatism.

Still haven’t planted the violas, but they seem to be perfectly happy in their trays. My arms and legs are still a little achy from last Friday.

The skin around my right eye flared up again last week, but seems to be behaving itself with ointment, and I don’t need to put a lot on, either.

Dropped off paint and closet photos at Edgewater. Ron talked to the electrician, who is scoping out the work in Peter’s office and the bathrooms this Thursday morning. Ron deposited our federal tax return.

Highfield – Opening Day

Gorgeous afternoon at Highfield enjoying elegant treats and a very entertaining Gershwin recital by Director of Music Robert Wyatt. We admired the “Fragment House” which was being tended to by artist Danielle Krcmar, then cleaned up some branches that had fallen in the West Garden.

Day of Rest?

Went to the Master Gardener’s Horticultural conference yesterday at the Hyannis Golf Club. Excellent presentations, took lots of notes, came away with a number of ideas.

Ordered 3 yards of mulch and bought a bag of potting soil at Scenic Roots on the way back.

We heard Roosevelt Dime, the latest in the Wepecket series last night. Had dinner in the downstairs lounge, enjoyed the music afterwards. Another good crowd.

Ron treated us to a fabulous scallop casserole from Cooke’s on Friday night and dinner at the club last night. I’m grateful to have two nights off from cooking.

Moved some furniture around in the living room and have been working on cleaning up the floor this morning.

Scrabble

001

Even thought we weren’t ready by a long shot, the flooring got done at Edgewater today. Peter and I were able to clear away the electronics and “stuff” in time for the two crews to finish work, a full day from 8:30 to about 4.

Peter’s office looks fantastic with the silver carpeting. The living room and family room are looking good, too.

Emme got home around 2 and was upset that we’d piled so much family room “stuff” in her room. I brought her over here and we had peppermint tea and a fantastic game of Scrabble – she used up all her tiles, and I ended up with only one!

Emme entertained us with a series of egg puns. Ron said he’s proud of her!

Eyes, Vanity, Flooring

I’m working at Edgewater today, packing up books and office supplies/equipment.

Pat the carpenter was here earlier to remove the old vanity and countertop, which Ron has pummeled. The plumber is here now.

I packed up 13 boxes of books at Edgewater and ran out of boxes. Came home for lunch, more boxes and to pick up James after school.

We have crocus in the “oval”. I am vexed to have left so many tulips between the roses.

Sleet, Rain, Bedford

Sleet and rain for most of the day, here, there and everywhere.

We closed on our equity line today. Enjoyed our conversation with the branch manager, a fellow libertarian.

We are waiting to hear from the plumber. Talked with the carpenter/contractor this morning about installing the vanity.

I was probably over-cautious, figured we’d miss road construction traffic by taking 495 to the Pike instead of 24 to 128. Ron didn’t seem to mind the conditions or the truck traffic, although he couldn’t stop talking about the crazy private automobile drivers.

We did the transfer station and senior center runs first thing this morning.

Disappointing Day

It was not a good day for work. I painted Emme’s door and Ron got the new toilet seat on, but I think munged one of the hinges. It might be a part we can replace.

I cleaned the cat boxes and loaded the trash and recyclables on the truck for transfer station run tomorrow.

I also tried to wash the stairwell walls. Another pass might do the trick, depends on how it looks when it dries.

We blue taped Emme’s bathroom, and I hung a new shower curtain liner and the laundered shower curtain.

Ron had to leave at 3:45 to get to Woods Hole. I stayed until 5:38.

No Rest

We’d offered to do some painting at Edgewater along with carpet and closet negotiation. We spent part of yesterday doing prep, i.e. cleaning and repairs.

I’m planning to bluetape the downstairs bathroom and maybe upstairs as well. Doubt that we’ll get to paint today, since Ron has WHFMS.

Ron got a lot done. He repaired Emme’s medicine cabinet, tacked down the metal strip between the kitchen and living room, and removed the wood trim from the upstairs bathroom: no small feat, since some fool had filled the screw depressions with wood putty.

I had a pretty busy week: meetings at Edgewater, meetings at the Commission, meeting with our tax preparer, a hearing evaluation, a planning session about the vanity setup, and 3 after-hours events: Glastonbury Abbey, a 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation debate on the Cape Cod Commission, and the South Shore .NET User Group Gadgeteer presentation, which Emme attended as well.

Tiny Survivors

We’re at the end of a blizzard that started before dawn, with high wind speeds and temperatures below freezing.

We realized a little after 7 am that we’d forgotten to shelter a tray of violas purchased earlier this week.  They were on the deck, fully exposed to the wind, and covered with about a half inch of snow.

I brought them in the house for now, but we needn’t have worried; they did just fine.
