Rain

Raining this morning, really coming down right now.  Thank goodness!  It’s been too dry, even at Edgewater.  This will really help the strawberries.  We have quite a few growing beneath the violet leaves.

I’m so happy that we got the grass garden cleaned up and mulched yesterday.  Sorry that I didn’t get the beets and cukes planted.

Gardener’s Diary

Planted two geraniums yesterday and a Delphinium today.  Hoping against hope that the Delph blooms this season and winters over.  It was the last purple/blue one at Attaquin.  I think it got passed over because it doesn’t have blossoms.

Need to do: beets and cukes.

Ron and I weeded and mulched the grass garden at Edgewater today.  It looks beautiful!  He got a good price on mulch at Botello, interestingly enough: they matched Waquoit.  Made me appreciate the great pre-season deal at Scenic Roots.  Maybe will get more next year.

Roses are starting to bloom.  Poor little things haven’t recovered yet from the damned caterpillars.

Ron has worked hard all day. He put the primer coat on the bench and has just finished washing the green table and a big 5-gallon bucket.

Grub Control, Oriole

Pretty sure I saw an Oriole today in one of the Russian olives.

Lawn people called about putting down grub control, so I finally used that bag that’s been sitting in the shed for ages.  It contains halofenozide, which is supposedly not very harmful to birds.

Hope we get rain tonight, the gardens and lawn are dry.

James mowed at Edgewater today, thank goodness!

Stumbled across one of Peter’s photo streams last night.  Enjoyed the pix of the kids.

Ron worked almost all day on sanding chipped paint from the bench.  Had no idea it would involve so much effort.

Good Time in NB

Last evening we were headed for the Cape Verdean open house in New Bedford but ended up at the Portuguese Feast instead before the Wepecket concert.

Had sandwiches and malasadas at Chocolate Com Pimenta.  Want to go back there to try more pastry.  Reminds me of the bakeries in the North End years ago.

Afterwards, we drove down Rodney French boulevard.  Gorgeous.

Ed the electrician finished the lighting in Peter’s office yesterday.  We caught up to thank and to pay him today.  Peter: “I _love_ the lighting. It’s _perfect._”

Did the transfer station run.  A lot this week with all the cardboard and fluorescent fixtures, but Ron crammed it all into the truck for one run.  Didn’t cost anything to recycle the lot, amazing.

At 2 PM, it was 90 degrees outside and about 75 in here.

Feed…

Fed Miracle Gro to the roses and the smaller gardens.  Sprayed Spinosad on the blueberries.  Traded a Gaura for the poor violas that were being attacked, transplanted them to a spot between the Montauks.

Lilacs are blooming and fragrant.

Recessed Lighting

Ed the electrician got a lot done today at Edgewater.  I’m hoping Peter will be very pleased with the new lighting.  Heaven knows, it’s got to be better than the clunkers he’s been living with for the past 10+ years.

Ron dropped off the redeemables and did a little shopping at the thrift shop across the parking lot.  Got himself a handsome silver and turquoise necklace and a family tree book which he wants to bring to his reunion later this month.

I added a salvia and another Gaura to the new grass garden.  We picked up two hangers at Roche for $5 each.

Bonnie let me take some rhubarb home and I made a sauce with strawberries and maple syrup.  No supper, too full from lunch.

Gardener’s Diary

Rachel at Soares says leave the roses alone, they will recover from the caterpillars.  Ron hooked up the soaker hose for them today.

Iris have started.  There’s a flower on one tomato plant!

Pinks that wintered over in the window boxes have started blooming.

Added a Gaura to the new grass garden.  Saw a hummer today.

Had to crank down the modem firewall to get work done yesterday.

Lilacs have a lot of blooms, but no scent.

Ron pointed out how much the tiny fir trees have grown.

First strawberry.

We were totally out of cookies, so I being too lazy to go shopping, baked oatmeal bars.

New sunglasses (2-fer) arrived today.  They are the bomb!

Weeding

Started weeding the grass garden at Edgewater yesterday. Transplanted what looked like a small grass to our back yard. More to do, but a decent start.

Minor problem with Aereo from the change in IP that they resolved in all of five minutes. Impressive!

Truck, New Modem

Midas removed the rattling heat shield this morning, no charge (nice!)

Switched out modems; we now have one with wireless built in. Hooked up the Vonage “device” and set up the computers with the new network.

Ron is out with the trimmer. He let me sleep in this morning, made coffee, woke me in time to get tothe appointment at Midas, set up the sprinkler. What a guy!

Ron asked for Jambalaya the other day. Roche had raw shrimp on sale yesterday, so we picked some up on the way back from meeting Peter at Edgewater. I made up a batch today so Ron could eat before his shift at the boat ramp.

I’ve got Pandora on and am enjoying a gorgeous breeze.

Added Google Analytics back in to the Foreclosures website. Made a change to MRS and blew out the page; can’t get back in to fix it.
