Caught Up

Finished normal weekend chores this morning: changed sheets, laundry.  Irrigated Rudbeckia with kitchen water, mulched and picked up last evening’s weedings.

Did some pre-storm harvesting while Smokey sat under one of the big grasses: tomatoes, beans, egg plant.

Ron drove Robert to work and brought home carbs from the Senior Center.

Very humid.  Glad we’ve left the A/Cs in.

Sunday Chores

We got back early enough from RI to do a transfer station run.  Ron kept James’ old bed for the wood.

I (finally) planted the Rudbeckia given to me last weekend (ouch) that have been sitting in water in a bucket.

We watched “First They Killed My Father” which started streaming on Netflix two days ago.

Kingstown, RI

In what was no doubt our last trip of the summer, we went to Southern Rhode Island for a dazzling CD release party put on by one of Ron’s friends.

We stayed the night and had breakfast in Jamestown and made a brief visit to Beavertail State Park.  Unfortunately, it was foggy, so we missed some great views going over the Pell, Newport and Mt. Hope bridges.

Deck Chairs

Alpha and I found some on sale (2/3 off) metal deck chairs at KMart (their idea) last night. They’d planned to go to a film showing but didn’t feel up to it, which worked out well for me; I got home about an hour earlier than expected.

I made stuffed zuke for lunch and pesto pizza for supper.

Ron put the chairs together today. One of the chairs has a slight hole. I called the manufacturer and asked for a repair kit, but the manufacturer is sending us a new seat.

We talked about going out to eat tonight, but when it comes down to it, there aren’t a lot of choices for vegetarians.  So, we made meatloaf: eggplant, carrot, celery, onion, tomato, seasonings, cheese, egg, panko. Cooked it on the grill, served it with corn.

Smokey likes our deck!

Ron Cooked! Aeration

Ron made my favorite vegetarian burgers for supper two nights ago and a mild squash/spinach chili with corn and rice last night.

I found the bugs in Warranty: stupid typos.

Saw Dr. Boyle for the one year checkup on Monday. That pretty much killed the morning, although I was able to hear about half of the noontime call. As I suspected, the mobile apps do not poll the database.

The guys from Weed Man aerated the lawn, back and front, today.

I set up a Warranty repo on Team Services yesterday.

Attended a session on wildlife print tracking at LL Bean last night.

Afternoon in Cotuit; Evening in Dennis

Alpha and I went to the Cotuit Library for a lecture on Japanese art. They attended the lecture, I worked downstairs.

We saw signs for and were lucky enough to be able to visit the Cotuit museum, which is run by the Historical Society of Santuit and Cotuit. It’s an exquisite museum co-located with the beautifully restored Samuel Dottridge Homestead.

Yesterday evening, all three of us visited the Cape Cod Playhouse for the first time to see the final performance of the season, “The Best of Second City”. I thought Alpha seeded the best ad lib of the night with their suggestion “Butterfly Screams” in the emo/punk rock genre.

Salads; Sauce; Alpha; Art

Made two salads and some less than perfect tomatoes into sauce yesterday.

Ron cleaned up the kitchen; it’s much nicer now!

Alpha, Ron and I went to Lillia and Herb’s art opening at the Falmouth Art Center.  There was also a juried show going on at the same time, so it was quite crowded for a while.

We love their work and Alpha fell in love with the Center.  They may apply for a scholarship to take a class.

They spotted a beautiful set of candleholders, and I bought them.  We’ll pick them up when the show is over, in about 3 weeks.

Picked up a couple of boxes of “used” strawberries and a couple of other groceries at Jack in the Beanstalk.  Ron and Alpha put together strawberry shortcakes for us.

Made a big breakfast this morning:  blueberry pancakes and a Western-type omelet with cheddar cheese, pepper and used cherry tomatoes.

Tomato Pie

Ron made salad, I made tomato pie for supper.  Elegant combination, enhanced by the new oils from Gustare.

The Safelite mobile van person replaced Ron’s windshield today.

I sent a pic to Jen of her friend’s house under construction.  Told her we’d be glad to help if needed.

I got over the data access hurdle with the new version of Warranty.

Set up the tile for Ron’s wallet.

Wrapped up my last project for LaMotte and got started on integrating a new emailer.  Downloaded a new version of the Android app, but was told to hold off on testing until it’s ported to staging.

Paul’s friends punked out on both of us.  Very pleased that Alpha will be joining us on Saturday!

Labor Day; Cape Cod Playhouse; Sesuit Harbor

Trekked to Dennis today to pick up tix at the Cape Cod Playhouse and figured after almost 16 years as a Cape Codder, it was time to visit the Sesuit Harbor Cafe.  It’s kind of a waste for vegetarians, but the views are terrific.

Picture-perfect day to be on or near the water.  Gorgeous ride on 6A, too.

Ron cleaned the bird bath.  I adjusted the new drapes and took soil samples from four gardens, to dry overnight and be tested tomorrow, or whenever I have time.  Also did some work on Warranty.

Didn’t realize that I’d purchased two sets of tickets to Second City, so am giving the extra set to Paul to hand off to friends of his.
