More Planting

Bought and planted swiss chard, shallots, brussel sprouts at Jenny’s Edibles.

Planted about $50 (8 plants and flats) worth of violas for $8 from Soares. This was enough for the window boxes and the pots in front of the shed.

Trip to the transfer station with yesterday’s tree prunings.

Continued working with Ilya on the preowned vehicles detail page.

Spaghetti and salad for supper. Ron went to the Spire for a concert. I stayed home and watched/listened to both Wayne Shorter sets from Jazz at Lincoln Center. Made an overnight bread pudding/French toast from stale bread and rolls.

Pruning

More today, this time I worked on the right side of the yard. Ron’s up next with the trimmer and chainsaw.

Planted a rhubarb plant from Laura.

More collaboration with Ilya on the preowned detail page.

Busy Ron

Ron mowed and power washed yesterday. He also grilled turkey cheese burgers for supper.

I wanted to check out some rhubarb-type plants at Edgewater, so gave Robert a ride home. Unfortunately, the plants weren’t there: biennials?

Gave up on the tree company and switched to Davey. Today they sprayed for winter moths here and at Laura’s.

Found a web designer who is a sharpie with .css to help me with NEPS.

Had an encounter with some bigoted crazies at the Sandwich BBC on Tuesday night. We’d taken Alpha out for pizza and the disturbance terrified her. I had difficulty getting to sleep that night as well. Generally speaking, I hate people I don’t know, with good reason.

Rain

It rained earlier this morning, not a deluge by any means, but some is better than none, which has been the case for what seems like weeks.

We did yard work at Edgewater yesterday. Ron started the clean-up of the area between our house and Joe’s, and I cleared a path to the front spigot. Also pruned the bushes on the right side of the steps.

Ron marinated a steak for dinner which was out of this world. Laura joined us for wine and food.

I put in the veggies today, used both gardens. Carrots were very hard to plant, tiny seedlings. I hope I didn’t kill the cuke, it was devilishly hard to extract it. Planted the tomatoes with their cages. Set up the last two soaker hoses.

Gypsy moths are out.

Bison burgers for lunch. Must admit I am not as fond of these as Ron seems to be.

Finished Pruning

Finished pruning the rose bushes. Watered the oval. Planted the phlox.

Made a sauteed greens, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cheese and egg dish for lunch.

We got the sheets changed and did a small load of laundry and the transfer station run.

Nice afternoon, breezy and mild. We drove to the beach but it was so foggy that we just turned around for home. Fearsome southwest wind.

Jenny’s Edibles

Caught up with Jenny’s Edibles today at Miskovsky Landscaping.

Her array of vegetables – started in her kitchen – is phenomenal. We bought Vermicelli and Cupcake squash; Parisienne carrots; Black Cherry, Indigo Blue Berries and Cherokee Purple tomatoes; Boothy’s Blonde cuke; Afina cutting celery; and Watermelon radish seedlings. Enough to start the new garden.

Dropped off over $5 worth of bottles and cans at Kappy’s and came home with a basket of white wine (tasting today), beer and ale.

Stopped at Job Lot on the way home for orange seltzer, tissues, basil, oatmeal, freezer bags, a phlox plant plus a gift certificate deal.

This morning, Ron drove Robert to work and I stayed at the house while the plumbers installed the new hot water heater.

I pruned another Montauk and the four St. Johnsworts. Cleared leaves and put 3 bags of mulch (3 feet each) from Waquoit Feed and Garden in the side garden.

Ron also picked Robert up from work. I have fish and purple sweets in the oven.

Been watching Essentially Ellington most of the afternoon and evening. So impressive, such great talent and hard work. These kids are quite remarkable, as are their teachers and communities.

No Rest

Watered today for the first time this year.

Word is the hummers, and possibly the orioles, are back, so Ron put up the feeders.

I cleaned the tub and the bathroom floor and vacuumed.

Two loads of laundry.

Started pruning the Montauks. Planted the basil. Peter stopped by to pick up a piece of birthday cake for James.

Good to get caught up on some of these things.

Bobby Byrnes, Birthday Cake

We picked Robert up after work and the three of us had supper at Bobby Byrnes.

Afterwards, Robert iced Ron’s birthday spice cake.

Ron remounted the shade in the bedroom after it’d fallen for the umpteenth time.

Watched the latest episode of “Wolf Hall”.

Very full birthday.

Keltic Kitchen and New Hat for Ron’s Birthday

DSC01958 DSC01961 DSC01962

Took Ron to Keltic Kitchen for hash and eggs and bought him a Donegal tweed cap for his birthday.

Later, we did a little pruning at Edgewater and brought a load (3 tarps) of leaves and dead grass to the transfer station.

I cleaned up leaves from the front of the house and filled another tarp. So many leaves this Spring, beyond belief after all the raking we did last Fall!
