\nIn Baton Rouge, one of the relief epicenters, residents who are fearful of a breakdown in law enforcement are standing in line for 3 hours to buy firearms.
\nTraffic jams are tripling normal commute times.
\nSchool districts in Louisiana and Texas are being overwhelmed by an influx of students.
\nMeanwhile, Massachusetts is spending OUR money hand-over-fist to accommodate “guests” who may not actually ever get here because guess what? They DON’T WANT TO LEAVE Houston or Baton Rouge or wherever else they happen to be living right now.
\nOver half the states – presumably, many of them with economies and climates a lot better than ours – have offered sanctuary, and the Feds have already said that there are more offers than people.
\nQuestion: if your home were wiped out, and you had any kind of marketable skills, where would you want to live: in a place 1,800 miles from your extended family, with hard winters, projected fuel shortages, a current outbreak of EEE, limited professional jobs and one of the highest costs of living in the US?
\nGuess when the politicians started to make their grand plans, no one bothered to consult the people affected. Give them an “A” for arrogance!
\nNot that this matters, but the writers on truthout.org, whom I normally respect, are blithering about the consequences of “small government” ideologues at the Federal level.
\nExcuse me, but when did $40.7 BILLION<\/a> in FY2005 public funds for the so-called Homeland Security Division become a bogey for “small” government?
\nOf course, the spin doctors in Washington must be working overtime on a few upcoming PR diversions, e.g., the nomination of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the anniversary of September 11.
