{"id":442,"date":"2005-09-07T07:45:57","date_gmt":"2005-09-07T12:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=442"},"modified":"2005-09-07T07:45:57","modified_gmt":"2005-09-07T12:45:57","slug":"and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=442","title":{"rendered":"And More&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our state rep, whom I adore, must keep the same 5 to 9 hours I do: he&#8217;s already responded to an email I sent this morning, and he&#8217;s got it right: the ongoing mismanagement of the Katrina victims is, &#8220;a mess&#8221;.<br \/>\nTo further erode whatever limited confidence one has in government at this point, he also admitted to having &#8220;the same questions&#8221; that I do.<br \/>\nAnd this is over FOUR DAYS after the announcement was made that 2,500 people would be relocated to this area.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nIn Baton Rouge, one of the relief epicenters, residents who are fearful of a breakdown in law enforcement are standing in line for 3 hours to buy firearms.<br \/>\nTraffic jams are tripling normal commute times.<br \/>\nSchool districts in Louisiana and Texas are being overwhelmed by an influx of students.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Massachusetts is spending OUR money hand-over-fist to accommodate &#8220;guests&#8221; who may not actually ever get here because guess what?  They DON&#8217;T WANT TO LEAVE Houston or Baton Rouge or wherever else they happen to be living right now.<br \/>\nOver half the states &#8211; presumably, many of them with economies and climates a lot better than ours &#8211; have offered sanctuary, and the Feds have already said that there are more offers than people.<br \/>\nQuestion: if your home were wiped out, and you had any kind of marketable skills, where would you want to live: in a place 1,800 miles from your extended family, with hard winters, projected fuel shortages, a current outbreak of EEE, limited professional jobs and one of the highest costs of living in the US?<br \/>\nGuess when the politicians started to make their grand plans, no one bothered to consult the people affected.
