I’ve been mulling around the idea for an after-school technology program for kids 9-12 (grades 3-6) for a while, and filed a business application yesterday at Town Hall.<\/p>
\nI’ll be exhibiting this weekend in the 4-H building at the County Fair, a pretty big event, and just went over to set up with my young neighbor, Tyler, just turned 6.
\nIt was fun to see the fair-in-process, and Tyler got to help, being small enough to crawl under a table to retrieve an extension cord.
\nGot an email earlier today from a colleague\/friend who is an adjunct at the local community college. He just took a job with a large bank that has a program that encourages volunteerism in their workforce, so, fingers crossed, he can get approval to be a workshop leader.
\nA local measurement equipment company has donated handouts and one of their product kits to be raffled, and I’m hoping to get some “swag” from Lego before the weekend.
\nLast night and this morning, I put together a display, and was pleased to see that the organizers located me right next to a door, a particular benefit in a non-air conditioned building, but also great for traffic.
\nMy good buddy Thom at Microsoft has asked how they can help, and next week, I’ll be meeting with an attorney about setting up a 501(c)(3).
\nMostly, I’m looking forward to meeting interested kids and parents at the Fair. Most every parent and schoolteacher I know is discouraged about declining enrollments and the erosion of class time, thanks to the MCAS, and having the 4-H’s blessing helps establish credibility, but still, I wonder if we’ll get any sign-ups.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
