After a picture-perfect July 4th weekend, we seem to be back in a pattern of soggy weather, which is great for evergreens, but can be nasty for flowers.<\/p>
\nIn fact, it was so foggy last night that we think the town of Mashpee stopped its annual fireworks display early – you couldn’t see anything.
\nWhich didn’t prevent hoardes of people from trying anyway.
\nI put in a petunia as a filler and hope I don’t regret it, noticed only afterwards that every blossom had an abudance of gray spots.
\nOne of the planters with pansies is doing fine, and responded well to pruning back. The other is pretty lackluster. Something has been eating the basil, and I can’t figure out how to stop it.
\nThe daylilies, though, are strong and healthy, and blooming, even the Spring transplants. They do make a cheerful sight on a gloomy day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
