{"id":373,"date":"2005-06-28T08:02:10","date_gmt":"2005-06-28T13:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=373"},"modified":"2005-06-28T08:02:10","modified_gmt":"2005-06-28T13:02:10","slug":"rain-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=373","title":{"rendered":"Rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s raining, and the gardeners and landscapers are happy, if not the parents of schoolkids on their first day of summer vacation.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s been weeks since we&#8217;ve had rain, and this is a good, soaking one that comes, luckily, a day after the local Pro-Am.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nEven with the long spate of drought, older, established plants have been hanging on, presumably because the rain that dumped in the spring raised the water table high enough.<br \/>\nThis end of June shower is a blessing, though, to those who planted late.  End of season sales are a powerful draw, pitting short-term frugality against reason.<br \/>\nFor example, I put in some relatively inexpensive annuals last weekend, zinnias and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/50283295@N00\/21996595\/\" target=\"_blank\">marigolds<\/a>, to fill in some spots in front of the fence.<br \/>\nWith this rain, I&#8217;m hoping that the larkspur will start blooming over the next couple of days.<br \/>\nHosta, summer daisies and day lilies should start thereafter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s raining, and the gardeners and landscapers are happy, if not the parents of schoolkids on their first day of summer vacation.
