\nEven with the long spate of drought, older, established plants have been hanging on, presumably because the rain that dumped in the spring raised the water table high enough.
\nThis end of June shower is a blessing, though, to those who planted late. End of season sales are a powerful draw, pitting short-term frugality against reason.
\nFor example, I put in some relatively inexpensive annuals last weekend, zinnias and marigolds<\/a>, to fill in some spots in front of the fence.
\nWith this rain, I’m hoping that the larkspur will start blooming over the next couple of days.
