{"id":279,"date":"2005-02-06T07:32:00","date_gmt":"2005-02-06T12:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=279"},"modified":"2005-02-06T07:32:00","modified_gmt":"2005-02-06T12:32:00","slug":"montserrat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=279","title":{"rendered":"Montserrat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peter suggested I consider the Caribbean island of Montserrat as a retirement destination.<br \/>\nFollowing their last volcanic eruption in 1997, Montserrat&#8217;s real estate values have declined to affordable levels: according to one website, you can buy a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tradewindsmontserrat.com\/villas_for_sale_page.html\" target=\"_blank\">2-bedroom, 2-bath villa<\/a> with a fabulous ocean view for under US$200,000.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nAfter watching videos of <a href=\"http:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/Hazards\/What\/PF\/pcflows.html\" target=\"_blank\">pyroclastic flows<\/a>, which can be 5x as hot as boiling water and move at 60 MPH, though, I&#8217;d not taken his suggestion to heart.<br \/>\nI was mentioning this last night to a friend who&#8217;s recently been the recipient of particularly nasty neighborhood gossip, some of which even made it to a court of law.<br \/>\nMy friend&#8217;s reaction to the Montserrat story is that it didn&#8217;t sound so bad to her:  after all, I could probably get volcano insurance, but you can&#8217;t buy &#8220;neighbor coverage&#8221;.<br \/>\nAnd 700<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peter suggested I consider the Caribbean island of Montserrat as a retirement destination.
