{"id":244,"date":"2004-12-28T08:34:28","date_gmt":"2004-12-28T13:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=244"},"modified":"2004-12-28T08:34:28","modified_gmt":"2004-12-28T13:34:28","slug":"could-have-been-worse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=244","title":{"rendered":"Could Have Been Worse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That&#8217;s what one of my co-workers said about the snowstorm that dumped 18 inches on parts of the Cape this past Sunday night.<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s right, we could have had a tsunami that would have wiped out all of the Outer Cape and just about everything else within a mile of the coast.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nSince Christmas day, the weather has been cold and miserable.  There is so much snow that it isn&#8217;t even pretty, it&#8217;s just a reminder of how really nasty it is outside.<br \/>\nFor those of us who didn&#8217;t lose power there is gratitude that our tenuous hold on civilized comforts, like heat and light, didn&#8217;t break.<br \/>\nViewing the scenes of devastation in the countries bordering the Indian Ocean &#8211; especially the news reports about the children lost &#8211; makes even a major snow storm seem an inconvenience.<br \/>\nI got a ride from my next door neighbor yesterday to the shop, and I was able to work from home, courtesy of the high speed internet connection and more or less reliable electrical service.<br \/>\nEvery time the lights went out, I thought of the crews working in the cold and the dark to restore power to the thousands who were left without.<br \/>\nThe trunks of the 3 cedars in front of my house &#8211; planted close together so they look like one tree &#8211; have been bowing outward since yesterday.  I tried to free them in the foot and a half of snow, but did a poor job of it, fearing that if I were too rigorous, I&#8217;d end up breaking the branches.<br \/>\nIt is supposed to warm up starting tomorrow, and I hope some of this stuff melts, as much for the benefit of the trees as anyone else&#8217;s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That&#8217;s what one of my co-workers said about the snowstorm that dumped 18 inches on parts of the Cape this past Sunday night.
