{"id":242,"date":"2004-12-25T11:56:13","date_gmt":"2004-12-25T16:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=242"},"modified":"2004-12-25T11:56:13","modified_gmt":"2004-12-25T16:56:13","slug":"pre-new-years-thoughts-part-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=242","title":{"rendered":"Pre-New Year&#8217;s Thoughts, Part I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been sorting through old paperwork &#8211; not my favorite chore &#8211; and ran across an essay by Susan Polis Schutz on &#8220;People Who Achieve Their Dreams&#8221;.<br \/>\nThe original is a tad sanctimonious (&#8220;They never have excuses for not doing something&#8221;) and more than a tad unrealistic (&#8220;They never consider the idea of failing&#8221;).<br \/>\nEven so, there are enough really good thoughts here that I&#8217;m copying a good portion of Ms. Schutz&#8217;s original, with some thoughts (in italics) of my own.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\n<b>People Who Achieve Their Dreams<\/b><br \/>\nThey have confidence in themselves<br \/>\nThey have a very strong sense of purpose<br \/>\nThey always try their hardest for perfection<br \/>\nThey work extremely hard towards their goals<br \/>\nThey know who they are<br \/>\nThey understand their weaknesses as well as their strong points<br \/>\n<i>They concentrate on what they can do rather than what they can&#8217;t<\/i><br \/>\n<i>They manage their fear of failure<\/i><br \/>\nThey know <i>how<\/i> to defend what they are doing<br \/>\n<i>They learn from negative experiences<\/i><br \/>\nThey are creative<br \/>\n<i>They are open to new experiences and opportunities<\/i><br \/>\nThey are not afraid to be a little different in finding innovative solutions that will enable them to achieve their dreams.<br \/>\nAnd, finally, this splendid piece of advice from Russell Crowe:<br \/>\nFor anyone who&#8217;s on the downside of advantage and living on courage:<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been sorting through old paperwork &#8211; not my favorite chore &#8211; and ran across an essay by Susan Polis Schutz on &#8220;People Who Achieve Their Dreams&#8221;.
