Both the young leaves and the striking purple flowers have a mild licorice flavour. Pull the purple flower tubes away from the central structure of the flower and scatter them in salads or fancy drinks for a pop of colour and flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angelica \u2013 This relative of celery&nbsp;<em>(Angelica archangelica<\/em>) has licorice-scented, pinkish flowers borne in large umbels. The flowers make an interesting addition to salads, but it is mostly grown for its stronger-tasting leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple \u2013 Be sure to only try flowers from trees that have not been sprayed. Apple blossoms (<em>Malus spp<\/em>.) have an appealing but delicate flavour and scent. They work particularly well with fresh fruit salads. Use in moderation, as the flowers contain very low levels of poisonous chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-arugula-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-arugula-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible flowers arugula flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64324\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/vegetable-seeds\/arugula-seeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arugula<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Once this cool-season plant (<em>Eruca vesicaria<\/em>) begins to bolt, its leaves will have become tough and almost too spicy to eat. So let it bolt, and enjoy some of its very small, spicy, white or yellow flowers. They add a nice, unusual zing to salads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-basil-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-basil-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible basil flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64325\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/basil-seeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Basil<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Most growers use basil\u2019s leaves (<em>Ocimum basilicum<\/em>) before the plant has flowered. After blooming, the character of the leaves changes and becomes less appealing, but the flowers can be eaten. They may be white to lavender, but they look stunning when sprinkled over pasta. Thai basil is sometimes allowed to flower before whole stems, with leaves attached, are harvested. The whole flower is edible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-begonia-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-begonia-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible tuborous begonia flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64326\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Begonia \u2013 both tuberous (<em>Begonia x tuberhybrida<\/em>) and wax (<em>B. x semperflorens-cultorum<\/em>) begonias have edible flowers with a slightly bitter to sharp citrus flavour. Tuberous begonia flowers contain oxalic acid, so should be avoided by people suffering from kidney stones, gout, or rheumatism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-wild-bergamot-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-wild-bergamot-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible flowers of Bergamot, wild\" class=\"wp-image-64327\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/bergamot-seeds\/\">Bergamot, wild<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 This plant (<em>Monarda fistulosa<\/em>) may be listed as bee balm, Monarda, Wild Bergamot, Oswego Tea, or Horsemint. The flowers (and the young leaves) have an intense flavour of mint with undertones of citrus and oregano. This plant that has a scent highly reminiscent of Earl Grey tea. Somewhat confusingly, the &#8220;oil of bergamot&#8221; used to flavour Earl Grey is actually derived from citrus peel from the Bergamot Orange. Monarda flowers are formed by large clusters of edible tubular petals that can be separated before adding to cakes, fancy drinks, or salads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-borage-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-borage-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Borage edible flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64328\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/borage-seeds\/borage\/\">Borage<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 This familiar garden herb (<em>Borago officnialis<\/em>) has furry leaves and exquisite blue, star-shaped flowers. Both have a cooling taste reminiscent of cucumber. Try some of the flowers in a summer lemonade or sorbet \u2013 or a gin &amp; tonic! They work particularly well as garnishes for gazpacho, cheese plates, or just sprinkled over salads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Calendula.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Calendula.jpg\" alt=\"Calendula Seeds in bloom\" class=\"wp-image-12802\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/collections\/calendula-seeds\">Calendula<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 All \u201cpot marigolds\u201d&nbsp;<em>(Calendula officinalis<\/em>) have flower petals that are edible. They have a nice flavour that ranges from peppery to bitter, and they add bright yellow, gold, and orange colour to soups and salads. They may even tint some dishes like saffron does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Chamomile-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Chamomile-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible chamomile flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64329\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/chamomile-seeds\/organic-german-chamomile-seeds\/\">Chamomile<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Choose the German chamomile (<em>Matricaria chamomilla syn. M. recutita<\/em>) for its daisy-like flowers. They can be used fresh or dried, and make a particularly nice tea that tastes vaguely like apples. Drink the tea in moderation \u2013 some allergy sufferers may have a negative response. Otherwise, sprinkle the petals into salads and soups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/chervil-seeds\/chervil\/\">Chervil<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The lacy leaves of this shade-loving herb (<em>Anthriscus cerefolium<\/em>) are topped by delicate white flowers borne in umbels. Both the leaves and the flowers have a very mild anise or licorice-like taste. Add chervil to your dishes just before serving to maintain the best flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Chicory-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Chicory-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible flowers of chicory\" class=\"wp-image-64330\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/vegetable-seeds\/chicory-seeds\/\">Chicory<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 All endive varieties (<em>Cichorium endivia &amp; C. intybus<\/em>) produce, at summer\u2019s end, tall stems with striking, sky-blue flowers. The petals can be pulled off and added to salads for their earthy, endive-like flavour. The unopened flower buds can also be pickled like capers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-chives.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-chives.jpg\" alt=\"List of edible flowers including chives\" class=\"wp-image-64331\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/collections\/chive-seeds\">Chives<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The flowers of chives (<em>Allium schoenoprasum<\/em>) are ball-like clusters of hundreds of little florets that can be separated and scattered onto salads for colour and a mild onion flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-chrysanthemum-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-chrysanthemum-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Shungiku edible chrysanthemum flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64335\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/products\/frilly-edible-chrysanthemum\">Chrysanthemum<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The edible chrysanthemum and garland Chrysanthemum (both are&nbsp;<em>Leucanthemum coronarium<\/em>) that we offer produce both edible young leaves and appealing white daisy-like flowers with yellow centres, or flowers that are entirely yellow. The petals of both types are edible and faintly tangy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Cilantro-Flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Cilantro-Flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible flowers of cilantro\" class=\"wp-image-64338\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/cilantro-seeds\/santo-organic-cilantro-seeds\/\">Cilantro<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 This leafy herb (<em>Coriandrum sativum<\/em>) is also known as Coriander. In summer heat it is quick to bolt, and will send up tall umbels of white flowers. These have an intensely herbal flavour, just like the leaves, roots, and seeds of the plant, and can be used as a garnish where cilantro leaves would otherwise be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-clover.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-clover.jpg\" alt=\"Edible clover flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64339\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/products\/white-dutch-clover-6\">Clover<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The flower heads of clover (<em>Trifolium spp.<\/em>) are edible, and have a sweet, mild liquorice flavour. In fact, the whole above ground plant is edible, but it\u2019s best to grow clover as tender sprouts or to use the flower tubes in moderation as a salad garnish. Mature clover is tough to digest, and may cause bloating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Cornflower.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Cornflower.jpg\" alt=\"Blossoms of Cornflower Seeds in bloom\" class=\"wp-image-12801\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/collections\/cornflower-seeds\">Cornflower<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The pretty, blue flowers of cornflower (<em>Centaurea cyanus<\/em>) have a slightly spicy, clove-like flavour with a subtle sweetness. Cornflower petals look wonderful in salads. Use torn petals as a garnish, or whole flowers in fancy drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dame\u2019s Rocket \u2013 The petals of this tall relative of mustard (<em>Hesperis matronalis<\/em>) are pink, lavender, or white, and always come in fours. Perennial Phlox looks similar, and also has edible flowers, but always have five petals. The petals (and the immature leaves) of Dame\u2019s Rocket are worth adding to salads, but have a mild bitter flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Dandelion-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Dandelion-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible dandelion flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64342\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wcsgotolive.wpengine.com\/shop\/vegetable-seeds\/salad-greens-seeds\/wild-greens\/dandelion-seeds\/\">Dandelion<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The ubiquitous dandelion (<em>Taxacum officinalis<\/em>) is entirely edible. When picked small, and unopened, the flower buds have a surprising sweetness, reminiscent of honey. Young greens are also tasty either raw or steamed. Dandelion petals look very nice when scattered over pasta or rice. While dandelions are rather easy to come by, make sure to harvest them only from organic gardens. Avoid any grown near roads or picked from lawns where chemicals may be present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-hemerocallis.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-hemerocallis.jpg\" alt=\"Edible day lilies flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64343\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Day Lilies \u2013 The fleshy, short-lived flowers of day lilies (<em>Hemerocallis spp.<\/em>) are sweet, with a flavour resembling mild melon or cucumber. Make sure to cut the tasty petals away from the bitter base of each flower. Try them in salads! Eat in moderation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/FL2058-Dianthus-Sweetness-340x340.jpg\" alt=\"How to Grow Dianthus\" class=\"wp-image-29404\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/collections\/dianthus-seeds\">Dianthus<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Look for the large-flowered carnation (<em>Dianthus caryophyllus<\/em>), and cut the sweet tasting petals away from the bitter white base of each flower. The bright red and pink petals have a mild clove flavour and are great for desserts or salads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-dill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-dill.jpg\" alt=\"Edible dill flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64344\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/collections\/dill-seeds\">Dill<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Stronger in flavour than the leaves, the flowers of dill (<em>Anethum graveolens<\/em>) can be used when cooking fish, or raw in salads. They are very small, yellow, and borne on tall umbels. Best used when they have just opened, as they set seed quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-English-daisy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-English-daisy.jpg\" alt=\"Edible flowers English daisy\" class=\"wp-image-64345\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/flower-seeds\/bellis-seeds\/english-bellis\/\">English Daisy<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The low growing flowers (<em>Bellis perennis<\/em>) have a bitter flavour, but are entirely edible. They are small enough to use simply by sprinkling the petals onto salads or other meals, and will not overwhelm stronger flavours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Selma-Fino-Florence-Fennel-Seeds-HR1089-1-340x340.jpg\" alt=\"How to grow Florence fennel Selma Fino Fennel Seeds HR1089-1\" class=\"wp-image-23721\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/herb-seeds\/fennel-herb-seeds\/finale\/\">Fennel<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Both the garden herb and the vegetable Florence fennel(both are&nbsp;<em>Foeniculum vulgare<\/em>) will eventually produce attractive and tall umbels of tiny yellow flowers that have the same mild licorice flavour as the leaves. These work very well in desserts!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-fuchsia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-fuchsia.jpg\" alt=\"Edible fuchsia flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64346\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuchsia \u2013 Avoid nursery-bought Fuchsia (<em>Fuchsia x hybrida<\/em>) flowers, as they may have been sprayed. Otherwise, the extraordinary looking flowers make great garnishes and have a slightly acidic flavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Garlic-Scapes.jpg\" alt=\"Garlic scapes\" class=\"wp-image-47662\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/overview\/vegetable-seeds\/seed-garlic\/\">Garlic<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Allowed to open, garlic flowers (<em>Allium sativum<\/em>) are pink to white, with florets that can be separated and inserted into salads for a mild garlic zing. However, allowing the plants to flower may divert energy that would otherwise go to the bulb. Many garlic growers prefer to cut the flower stems (scapes) before they open. These can be saut\u00e9ed in butter for an intense, early summer side dish, or run through the food processor and mixed with Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and pine nuts for a sensational pesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-hollyhocks-flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-hollyhocks-flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Hollyhocks edible flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64347\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/flower-seeds\/hollyhocks-seeds\/indian-spring\/\">Hollyhock<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The large, brightly coloured flowers of common hollyhocks&nbsp;<em>(Alcea rosea<\/em>) have almost no flavour of their own, but they sure look nice cut into salads or sprinkled over desserts. Be sure to use the petals only \u2013 cut these away from the central structure of the flower just before serving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honeysuckle \u2013 The long flower tubes of various honeysuckle species are edible, but Japanese honeysuckle (<em>Lonicera japonica<\/em>) is best, with its distinctly honey-like flavour. Do not eat the berries that follow, or any other part of the plant, as they are all poisonous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impatiens \u2013 The flowers of Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) may be bright white or shocking red, but the petals are edible and have a surprisingly sweet taste. All parts of the nasturtium have a pleasant, sweet, peppery flavour. The flowers can be used whole to decorate salads and a variety of other foods, but you may want to remove the long spur at the back of the flower, as this is the nectary and may harbour small insects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-pansies.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-flowers-pansies.jpg\" alt=\"Edible pansies flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64352\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/flower-seeds\/violas-seeds\/swiss-giants-mix\/\">Pansy<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 The flower petals of the familiar garden pansy (<em>Viola x wittrockiana<\/em>) are edible and highly decorative. The petals have little flavour, but the whole flower can also be used. It has a grassy, wintergreen undertone that works well in fruit salad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Pea-Flowers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/Edible-Pea-Flowers.jpg\" alt=\"Edible pea flowers\" class=\"wp-image-64353\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/vegetable-seeds\/peas-seeds\/snow-pea-seeds\/dwarf-grey-sugar\/\">Pea<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Edible garden peas (<em>Pisum sativum<\/em>) produce edible flowers that look great in salads. Serve a blend of peas in a meal: shelled peas, pea tendrils, pea pods, and some flowers for garnish. Note:&nbsp;<em>Ornamental sweet peas are poisonous.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perennial Phlox \u2013 Be certain that you\u2019ve got the tall-growing perennial garden Phlox (<em>Phlox paniculata<\/em>), and not the inedible annual, creeping type before you try the flowers. The perennial type bears pink to white flowers with five petals that have a pleasant, peppery flavour. They look great and taste great in fruit salads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primrose \u2013 With its bland, but highly colourful flowers, primrose (<em>Primula vulgaris<\/em>) is worth cultivating if only to tear its petals into a few summer salads. The flower buds can also be pickled, steamed, or fermented into wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Queen Anne\u2019s Lace \u2013 The Wild Carrot (<em>Daucus carota<\/em>) produces tall umbels of exquisite, tiny, white flowers, each one marked by a blood-red centre. Although this plant is grown for its decorative, edible flowers, it can cross-pollinate with its close relative the carrot, so if you happen to be growing carrots with the intent of saving seed, avoid this plant in your garden. The flowers of Queen Anne\u2019s Lace have a mild, carroty flavour. Be absolutely certain that the plant you are harvesting is not the invasive weed known as Wild or Poison Hemlock (<em>Conium maculatum<\/em>), which looks very similar. The stems of Queen Anne\u2019s Lace are hairy, while Poison Hemlock has smooth, hollow stems with purple spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0011\/2341\/8172\/files\/FL2061_Miniature-Rose1-340x340.jpg\" alt=\"Garden party rose seeds FL2061 1\" class=\"wp-image-29682\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastseeds.com\/shop\/flower-seeds\/rose-seeds\/garden-party-mini-rose\/\">Rose<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 Another surprisingly edible garden flower is the rose (<em>Rosa spp<\/em>.). Although its petals are intensely perfumed, their flavour is subtler and a bit fruity, with complex undertones that depend on the variety and soil conditions. The petals of all roses are edible, but you should remove the bitter white base of each petal.
