{"id":1092,"date":"2008-09-16T11:51:19","date_gmt":"2008-09-16T16:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/wp\/?p=1092"},"modified":"2008-09-16T11:51:19","modified_gmt":"2008-09-16T16:51:19","slug":"sex-ed-and-kindergarten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hendersonbrook.net\/?p=1092","title":{"rendered":"Sex Ed and Kindergarten"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It must be that very few pundits in the left-leaning MSM have actually read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=&SessionId=3&GA=93&DocTypeId=SB&DocNum=99&GAID=3&LegID=734&SpecSess=&Session\" target=\"_blank\">text of SB0099<\/a>, the Illinois General Assembly bill supported by Barack Obama which intended to amend the state&#8217;s sex education curriculum.<br \/>\nI say this because having read the bill, I think that anyone who claims that McCain &#8220;lied&#8221; is flat-out wrong.<\/p><p><!--more--><br \/>\nThe bill lowers the age at which sex ed is taught from Grade 6 to Kindergarten.  It talks about &#8220;comprehensive&#8221; sex education.  Among other things, it mandates instruction on HIV prevention.  It does not restrict specific subject matter by age, only stating that &#8220;course material and instruction shall be age and developmentally appropriate&#8221;.  It does not, for example and as implied by the Obama campaign, restrict subject matter for very young children to &#8220;inappropriate touching&#8221;.<br \/>\nEvidently the language was kept deliberately vague to give educators the ability to tailor the curriculum in accordance to local community standards.  As <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/?q=NzI3ZDUzOTE0ZThlMTU3MTY0MDI4ZTY0MTZhY2I2MGY=&w=Mg==\" target=\"_blank\">explained by Ken Swanson<\/a>, the head of the Illinois Education Association, &#8220;What might be appropriate in an urban inner city might not be appropriate in a rural community.
