The outdoor shower is installed. Ron took the first and loved it!
Got Some Work Done
Finished the coding for the credit card processing. Two calls to Tech Support, got the same person each time.
Did some schedule adjustment for Christine and found that I needed to change a couple of SQL statements.
Brought some tomato cages over to Laura’s garden.
Robert came over for dinner. Steak, bourbon chicken breasts, squash, salad, strawberries, ice cream, oatmeal raisin cookies. Robert regaled us with tales from the retail dark side and of wasps invading – and being digested by – figs.
Rain (Oh My Gosh)!
Construction had to be postponed again today. A serious rainstorm started around 9 this morning and is continuing well into the afternoon.
Pool Boy and Hose Meister definitely have the day off!
I made blueberry pancakes.
Ron drove Robert to work and back, and I drove Alf to and from her Hyannis appointment. We picked up sandwich specials at Stop & Shop for lunch.
Was amazed by the crowd waiting in line, in the rain, to get in for a tour at Cape Cod Potato Chips. Their factory is behind the building where Alpha had her appointment.
Couldn’t get anything done on the payment processing project; the credit card processing company servers were down for the afternoon and evening. One of our colleagues suggested that I try again tomorrow.
Made bison burgers and french fries for supper. Managed to get the burgers grilled before the rain picked up again. We’ve gotten at least an inch today.
Work Begins on the Shower Stall
Joe and Ron worked from noon to about 4 building walls for the new outdoor shower.
Unexpected rain had pushed off construction until afternoon, so Ron and I were able to do the transfer station run in the morning.
Gave Robert a lift home after work.
Ron had to patch the cheap shade in our bedroom – again.
Ron’s new impact wrench arrived as promised.
Steak, chicken, salad and rutabaga for supper. Ice cream, too.
Cave, Pruning, Prayer Flags, Roses
Dug a cave under the deck so Ron can attach the 4x4s for the shower surround.
Looks like we consumed 80 kwH of power from Eversource this July as opposed to 961 last year.
Sprayed the roses with Rose Shield (Japanese beetles). Unraveled the morning glories and placed them on a small trellis.
We attended a fine lecture at MBL last evening on “Genomic Dark Matter”.
When we got home, I ordered a new Kawasaki impact wrench and a socket set on Amazon for Ron.
Did some pruning today. The center branches belonging to the azalea in the front were almost all completely dead. Finished pruning the bushes in the “U”. Trimmed a few dead blossoms from the hydrangeas.
After many months of looking at them, finally rehung the prayer flags and turned them rightside-out.
Steak, baked bread and salad for supper last night.
Ron brought home bagels and rolls yesterday from the Senior Center. Excellent haul for a Friday. He delivered half to Edgewater today after unloading yard clippings at the transfer station.
Ron finished and dropped off his employment application yesterday. Joe was nice enough to agree to reference him.
Joe came over to consult on our building project. He was nice enough to offer to help!
Ron went to Home Depot for a couple more materials.
Grilled chicken and sausage, salad and stuffed cupcake squash for dinner.
70th Anniversary of Hiroshima
We joined the usual crowd of do-gooders on Falmouth Green this evening. Much better turnout than last year, if memory serves. A photographer from one of the papers was there.
Earlier, we picked up building materials for the outdoor shower stall.
I started digging out under the deck so Ron can attach the 4x4s.
Did laundry. Uploaded 3 “dummy” files for the CCO project. Woke up early with a swollen neck.
Pizza for supper.
Shower Plumbing Installed
Drove Robert to and from work.
Went shopping at Gustare.
Grilled chicken and green salad for supper.
Plumbers installed the shower hardware!
Gave a rough drawing of the shower enclosure to a gent at Wood Lumber.
Met with John Moore at Starbucks in Falmouth to talk about CCO.
Watered flowers at Edgewater and new plantings here.
What Happened So Far Today? Oh, Yes….
Short thunderstorm this morning. Woke Ron up.
We met with Bob and associate about the outdoor shower.
Jim persuaded Trinity to give us a referral bonus!
I drove Robert to work; Ron did the Senior Center run and picked up a job app at a local manufacturing company.
I picked up three bargains at Mahoneys and planted a Rudbeckia in a “hole” in front of the fence and two Phystostegia(Obedient Plant) in the gap in the back of the fence. They should all do well, their relatives seem to like it here.
Grilled chicken and stir fry for supper. I spent some quality time in the hammock.
Goodbye, Arbor Vitae
The giant arborvitae (2) in the front yard overpowered our house, discouraged other plants and made it difficult to mow and garden.
We tried to find an arborist who would move them, but there isn’t demand for arbor vitae. The multiple trunks made it especially difficult.
The final blow was from National Grid, our gas company. They advised us not to dig up the biggest set, on the right side, because they were growing right over the gas line.
So, after much thought, we had them cut down today.
We hope stump grinding will happen this week.
The yard looks really strange now, but I’m hoping once we get some grass down and spring growth happens, it’ll be better.
Meanwhile, Ron got his van back (hooray) and we took a stroll around the block this evening.
Heard from Cindy. Things are not good with her mother, but Jimmy is there and Julia is on her way. Cathy and I are relieved that she’s not by herself. Cathy’s doing great, she has a consult with a new doc on Wednesday
Grilled hamburgers for supper. Watched bats!
