Walkabout, New Bedford

I’ve been promising myself for months to drop by Groundworks!, and persuaded Ron to join me on a trip to New Bedford.

Treated Ron to a snack at Uncle Jon’s in Marion. After downtown New Bedford, we walked around Fort Taber, a picturesque and, as you approach the ocean side, magical site.

We stopped at Sid Wainer and Kyler’s as well. Made it to the Fairgrounds’ Organic Market just before closing.

Cheerful In Here

Ron is almost finished making another of his fabulous salads, and he’s listening to some upbeat blues/rock music.

I am in a funk.  Unhappy with myself, failed my lifestyle expectations.  I keep trying to be positive about what I/we’ve accomplished, but it comes up short for reasons I can’t get ahold of.

Did some work in the garden after watching Downton Abbey.  That show often inspires me to get my hands dirty, all that talk about country life and pigs!  Took out the tomato plants and cages, did a little weeding.

I took out all 3 A/C’s today and put back the screen in the bedroom window.  I almost slaughtered Ron for a stupid critical remark accompanied by his demeaning titter, which sends me into a state of sheer rage.

Called Delta Dental about a claim payment, or rather a non-payment.  They explained it very well.

Ron visited Emerald today for the pain in his arm and got some good news from Harvard Pilgrim.  He’s covered 100% for an MRI which the PA ordered for him and which he’ll have done next week.  He’ll be seeing an ortho specialist as well.

Watered the new grass.  It seems to be coming along, although there are still a lot of bare spots.

Got this week’s driving schedule from Peter.

It took two months, but I got my referral check today from Trinity Solar!

Busy Day

Tried out the new spot cleaner on the carpet in the bedroom.  Seems to work quite well; at least, it took up a lot of dirt, and I wasn’t even using it correctly.

Ron did laundry, I made the bed.  We did the transfer station run and caught the end of the farmers’ market at the Commons.  Bought frozen yogurts for both of us.

On the Run

On the run since about 10:30 this morning.

Picked up James so he could go to his bank.  Visited Paul.  Did my own banking at BofA and Rockland. Picked up a book on hold at the library.

Ordered and picked up a Bissell rug cleaner at Walmart.  Ron found a bulletin board he likes at Ace.

Finished up MRS.

Nice supper.  Watched the last two Season one episodes of “Madam Secretary”.

Cleaning

100_6509 100_6507Laura lent me a terrific cleaning tool, her Bissell Powerfresh steam mop.  It works on flat surface floors; wish it were for carpet, too.

Dropped off old wood at the Bourne transfer station.  For the last two days, they closed early, so I got there around 7:30 this  morning.

I’ve cleaned the kitchen, bathroom and hallway and living room.  It’s taken a long time, but I’m pleased with the results.

We had a thunderstorm this morning, after I watered, duh.

Finally figured out how to make a flat turks head knot . Here’s a version from Nova Scotia.

Mowed the lawn.  Ron did a couple of loads of laundry, errands and shopping.  We had a relaxing time on the deck with beer and crudites.

Bad Dreams

I’ve been having a lot of flashback-type dreams.

Intestinal distress yesterday.

Had a nice visit with Alpha today.  She made a gluten-free chocolate cake that turned out quite well.  I made chicken curry that was well-received.

Went to a program at WBNERR about local farms and something called “resilience”.  I take it to mean “self-reliance”.

Grass is coming in.  Luis was by yesterday to fertilize and put down weedkiller.

Jim sent the new password and MRS seems to be running correctly.  Had a make a minor fix, I think due to a change in return variables from Payflow Pro.

Ron re-installed one of the tool hangers in the shed.  It is greatly improved!

Taking Down, Building Up

Yesterday’s weather was ideal for working outside .

Did some pruning, mostly in the Oval.  Brought a pile to the transfer station.

More grass seed watering.

Started building up the new herb garden plot.

Uploaded files to MRS.  Still no word about Payflow.

Ron brought home Ghelfi’s candy; Roche Bros cake; and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream: outrageous!

Got It All Done

Laundry, changed sheets, drove James to work, transfer station.

Put down landscape paper and bags to suppress weeds in the new garden area.

Watered grass seed.

Put leaves on the garlic bulbs.

Grilled sausages for supper.

Relaxed and did nothing!

What A Day!

Ron drove Peter to work. I went to the library to pick up a DVD and chat with historian Rosemary Burns about her new book “Mashpee in Words and Pictures.” Meandered around Oktoberfest as well, signed a petition sponsored by our local Tea Party group to do away with Common Core and PARCC.

Ron drove James to Oktoberfest so he could do some fundraising with a school club.

I started to clean out the herb garden and managed to wound the birch by mistake. It’s a small cut, so the tree should be able to recover by itself, so long as I keep it clean.

By this time, my back was ready to quit, so Ron brought me along to pick up James at the library.

We took off for Orleans after dropping James off. Had coffee and chatted with a Boy Scout and his grandpa at the rest stop on the Mid-Cape. Went to the Addison Gallery to look at the paintings and see BJQ perform.

Decided to take a short walk at Nauset Beach and passed Zia’s on the way.

We returned for the Club Med: fig jam, caramelized onion, feta, prosciutto, mozzarella.

Roller

I rented a roller for the day to pack down the seeds and level out the bare patches.

Stopped at the Senior Center for bagels and bread for us and Edgewater.

Ron’s left arm is still bothering him from the flu shot.

Peter schooled his old employer on the definition of “employee” versus “contractor”.

James mowed.

Thunderstorm happening now. We had a brief shower around mid-day.

Laura gave us some outstanding carrot/ginger soup that she made.

Good supper tonight: baked cod, spinach souffle, baked turnip.
